Permanent Small Animal Vet

Fancy a lifestyle change? Start your day watching dolphins from one of our pristine beaches and finish with a sunset walk in the Preseli hills. Cardigan town and the surrounding areas are a thriving hub of independent shops and restaurants with all local schools rated as ‘Good’ by the Welsh Inspectorate.

We are seeking a GP Veterinary Surgeon who can pick up a varied and interesting caseload. Special interests and certificates are supported and encouraged – we want you to continue to be excited by your work. Recent purchases at the request of our vets and nurses include laparoscopy equipment, multi parameter monitoring machines and other specialist kit. For complex cases we work with Virtual Veterinary Specialists (VVS). We are offering the choice to work within our expanding Preseli team, with the option to help shape the future of this site, or as a member of our larger Cardigan team.

Guide salary range (negotiable dependent on specific experience and any additional qualifications):

0-5 years’ experience:     £30500 - £40500
6-10 years’ experience:      £42000 - £46000
11-15 years’ experience:    £47000 - £51000
16+ years’ experience:    £51500+

Our team:

We are a welcoming team of 9 (6 FTE) small animal vets, 15 (10 FTE) Nurses and 2 ANAs supported by a management team which includes our SA Clinical Director and Head Nurse.

Working hours:

Our opening hours are Mon – Fri 8:30 – 17:30 and Sat 8:30 – 13:00.

We have two vets consulting on a Saturday and no routine ops. Currently our ooo rota is currently 1:5 but our goal is to reduce this to 1:6.

Our OOH rota includes a 2pm finish the day after a weeknight on-call.  For weekends on call we offer a 2pm finish on Monday plus Friday off the following week.  A Friday night on call followed by the Saturday half-day surgery (until 1pm) earns 8h TOIL.

Our vets are all supported on call by a dedicated RVN.  You will also have the use of a modern apartment located opposite to our Cardigan surgery during nights on call.

We are a close-knit team and would like a team player with good communication skills.

Coaching and OV experience would be a plus but is not essential as we have experienced vets who can mentor junior candidates.
